Volunteer

The help that Jersey Women’s Refuge receives from volunteers is invaluable and without support from volunteers we would be unable to provide our vital 24-hour service. Committing to volunteering with the refuge can not only be rewarding but may give you valuable work experience.

Volunteer at the Refuge

The Refuge operates a 24-hour service and therefore volunteers support the service at various times during the day, evening, night duties and weekends, depending on personal availability.

Volunteers working at the safe house will undergo an induction training programme which gives our volunteers the skills, knowledge and confidence to support clients at the refuge in a “helping role”. Volunteers will receive on-going training and support in their role. Volunteers will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Fundraising

We also require volunteers to support us with our fundraising events. There are a variety of ways to help us at our different events throughout the year and if you are interested in helping in any way please contact our fundraiser at fundraising@jerseywomensrefug.org.

Domestic Violence is any form of physical, emotional, sexual or financial abuse which is used to gain power and control over the other person in an intimate relationship.

Women often say emotional abuse is worse than physical abuse as it leaves no visible scars, is difficult to prove and can be very damaging.

Children living with domestic violence can also suffer in a variety of ways; either by witnessing violence itself, by being used as emotional pawns or indirectly by the stress suffered by their mother.
